Wheat is harvested somewhere in the world every month of the year. One bushel of wheat weighs approx. 60 pounds. There are about 50 kernels in a head of wheat. One bushel of wheat contains approx. 1 million individual kernels. ND is number one in the production hard red spring and durum. ND farmers grow approx. 250 million bushels of hard red spring wheat and approx. 50 million bushels of durum. It takes a combine nine seconds to harvest enough wheat to make 70 loaves of bread. A bushel of wheat makes 45 boxes of wheat flake cereal. An acre will produce enough wheat from about 2,500 loaves of wheat bread.
