FOR KIDS

There are all sorts of fun contests going on during the Fair – there are even some that you can do before the Fair even starts! Check out some of our family friendly contests below.

READ & WIN

10 books (of any length) must be read by child – not teacher, parent, librarian, etc. and all 10 books must be listed. Every child who returns a completed form on or before the June 15th deadline is a winner!

KIDS’ COLORING

Print off the sheet, color it, and return to the Fair Office by July 3, 2020. Entries will be displayed in the Exhibition Hall during the Fair. No entries will be returned. No names or ages of winners will not be posted.

KIDS’ RODEO

Registration opens at 4:30 PM and the contest beings at 5: 00 pm. This event is open to children 10 and under and features 3 different age groups: 3 to 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 10. All games will be played on foot, leave your pony at home! Three different games will be played per age group. Guardian must be present with each child and consent forms must be filled out and signed.

KIDS’ LEGO

You will be allowed a maximum time of 30 minutes to assemble your Lego creation. You will be given table space to work. There will be judges observing you and asking questions as you work. Prizes will be awarded in each age category. The public is invited. 1st – 4th place ribbons or trophies will be awarded in each age category. Awards will be based on creativity and originality. All Lego materials are provided. Sponsored & judged by Foss Architects & Interiors.

No entry fee! Rubber Duckies, straws, and other supplies will be provided to contestants. Only one entry per contestant. Prizes will be awarded!

GENERAL CONTESTS

Do you make the best strawberry rhubarb pie? How about the best mango salsa? Or the best summer pasta salad? There are all sorts of fun contests going on during the Fair – there are even some that you can do before the Fair even starts! All contests are free to enter. Check out some of our family friendly contests below.

If you have an entry for a special cooking contest, enter/park near Gate 2 or Gate 3. Enter through Gate 3 by the north end of the fairgrounds, and bring your entry to Exhibition Hall.

Photography Theme: Benches

Each exhibitor may enter 1 print. Prints can be any size up to 8 x 10. All pictures must be attached to foam core or heavy cardboard (no poster board).  They must be covered in a clear see through material (no frames).  Your name and address must be placed on the back side of each print.

Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality, and effectiveness in expressing contest theme.

COOKING: SALSA

Entries will be judged on flavor, consistency, balance of flavor and appearance. Please bring salsa entries in through Gate 3 to Exhibition Hall.

Contest Categories:

  1. Mild Salsa
  2. Hot Salsa
  3. Inferno Salsa
  4. Miscellaneous Salsa

Contest Entry Rules:

  1. All contestants must be considered “amateurs”.
  2. Entries must be homemade and not produced or packaged in any way.
  3. There will be one Grand & Reserve Champion.  There will also be a first & second place winner for each category.
  4. Salsa must be made from scratch, no mixes, by the entrant and submitted in a glass jar (at least 1 pint).
  5. Recipe must accompany product.
  6. Only one entry per salsa category per person is allowed (1 mild, 1 hot, 1 inferno and/or 1 misc.)
  7. The Red River Valley Fair has the right to publish or advertise the recipes and the names of the contestants without compensation.
  8. Do not put any labels or marking on the jar or lid.
  9. Observe food safety guidelines in preparing and transporting foods to the Fair.
  10. Salsa can be fresh or canned.
  11. Salsa samples will not be offered to the public; tasting will be limited to judges only.

COOKING: HOMEMADE PIE

Entries will be judged on taste, appearance, and consistency. Please bring Pies in through Gate 3, and into Exhibition Hall.

Contest Categories:

  1. Fruit Pie
  2. Custard or Cream Pie
  3. Specialty Pie (i.e. Chicken Pot Pie, Minced Meat Pie, etc.)

COOKING: PASTA

Cooking with Dakota Growers Pasta

Create your favorite pasta dish! Entries can be either hot or cold and side dish or main dish. Entries must use Dakota Growers Pasta. Please bring pasta dishes in through Gate 3 and into Exhibition Hall.

Contest Entry Rules:

  1. Create your favorite pasta dish using any Dakota Growers Pasta Product.
  2. Type or print the recipe and your name, address, and phone number on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper.
  3. Attach the Dakota Growers Pasta label to the recipe and submit with the entry.
  4. There will be a Grand, Reserve, 1st and 2nd place winners.
  5. Dakota Growers and the Red River Valley Fair have the right to publish or advertise the recipes and the names of the contestants without compensation.
  6. Observe food safety guidelines in preparing and transporting foods to the Fair.
