
COOKING CONTESTS AT THE RED RIVER VALLEY FAIR
Do you make the best strawberry rhubarb pie? How about the best mango salsa? Or the best summer pasta salad?
Well enter your best dish into these special cooking contests during the Fair!
All contests are FREE to enter.
If you have an entry for a special cooking contest, enter/park near Gate 2 or Gate 3. Enter through Gate 3 by the north end of the fairgrounds, and bring your entry to Exhibition Hall.

HOMEMADE PIE CONTEST
THURSDAY, JULY 11, 2019
Entries Accepted: 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm • Judging at 4:00 pm
Exhibition Hall • Sponsored & Judged by Deaner’s Diner
Contest Categories:
- Fruit Pie
- Cream or Custard Pie
- Specialty Pie (i.e. Chicken Pot Pie, Minced Meat Pie, etc.)
Contest Entry Rules:
- All contestants must be considered “amateurs.”
- Entries must be homemade and not produced or packaged in any way
- The 1st & 2nd Place winners will receive a gift certificate along with ribbons.
- Pie must be made from scratch, no mixes.
- Typed recipe must accompany product.
- The Red River Valley Fair has the right to publish or advertise the recipes and the names of the contestants without compensation.
- Observe food safety guidelines in preparing and transporting foods to the Fair.
- Pie samples will not be offered to the public; tasting will be limited to judges only.
Entries will be judged on taste, appearance, and consistency.
Please bring Pies in through Gate 3, and into Exhibition Hall.

PASTA CONTEST – COOKING WITH DAKOTA GROWERS PASTA
FRIDAY, JULY 12, 2019
Entries Accepted: 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm • Judging at 2:00 pm

Create your favorite pasta dish! Entries can be either hot or cold and side dish or main dish. Entries must use Dakota Growers Pasta.
Contest Entry Rules:
- Create your favorite pasta dish using any Dakota Growers Pasta Product.
- Type or print the recipe and your name, address, and phone number on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper.
- Attach the Dakota Growers Pasta label to the recipe and submit with the entry
- Dakota Growers and the Red River Valley Fair have the right to publish or advertise the recipes and the names of the contestants without compensation.
- Observe food safety guidelines in preparing and transporting foods to the Fair.
- Pasta samples will not be offered to the public; tasting will be limited to judges only.
Please bring Pasta Dishes in through Gate 3, and into Exhibition Hall.

SALSA CONTEST

Entries Accepted: Any Time Before 1:30 pm • Judging at 2:00 pm

Contest Categories:
- Mild Salsa
- Hot Salsa
- Inferno Salsa
- Miscellaneous Salsa
Contest Entry Rules:
- All contestants must be considered “amateurs”.
- Entries must be homemade and not produced or packaged in any way.
- There will be a first, second, and third place winner for each category.
- Salsa must be made from scratch, no mixes, by the entrant and submitted in a glass jar (at least 1 pint).
- A typed recipe must accompany product.
- Only one entry per salsa category per person is allowed (1 mild, 1 hot, 1 inferno and/or 1 misc.)
- The Red River Valley Fair has the right to publish or advertise the recipes and the names of the contestants without compensation.
- Do not put any labels or marking on the jar or lid.
- Observe food safety guidelines in preparing and transporting foods to the Fair.
- Salsa can be fresh or canned.
- Salsa samples will not be offered to the public; tasting will be limited to judges only.
Entries will be judged on flavor, consistency, balance of flavor and appearance.
