WEST FARGO, ND – The Red River Valley Fair Association and KFGO the Mighty 790 are together hosting the first inaugural North Dakota Jigsaw Puzzle Competition during the 2018 Red River Valley Fair. The competition will be held on Sunday, July 15th at 11:00 am in the Foltz Special Events Center building at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds.

A documentary was released in 2014 about competitive puzzling, and KFGO had one of the team members, Valerie Coit, from the Wicker Kittens team, on The It Takes 2 with Amy & JJ in April to discuss competitive puzzling. “We were approached by KFGO about partnering together to start a North Dakota Jigsaw Puzzle Competition. We figured almost everyone has done at least one puzzle in their lifetime, so we figured why not have a puzzle competition during the Fair,” stated Special Events Coordinator, Judy Dvoracek. The goal is to interlock all 500 pieces of the jigsaw puzzle the fastest.

“We originally had a two hour time limit, but four of our staff tried a 500 piece puzzle, and it took three hours to complete. It’s a lot harder than you would think, all of the blues or colors start to look the same,” Dvoracek said.

Competition will begin at 11:30 am and teams will have three hours to complete a 500 piece puzzle. All of the puzzles will be the same, and will be unopened. Competition is open to the first 20 teams that register – teams consist of 3 to 4 members. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
